State of Social 22 - Recap

Australia's biggest Social Media & Digital Marketing conference took place in Perth last month. Now in its 5th year, State of Social is a two-day conference that hosts a phenomenal list of international industry heavy weights. Held at Optus Stadium, State of Social is the brainchild of Meg Coffey and we were proud to sponsor the event again. MyMedia provided all the barista made coffee attendees could drink … turns out that’s a lot of coffee!

Despite the international cohort of speakers MyMedia’s personal highlight was local Patrick Ashworth. For 10 years Patrick worked for the WA Labor party building social media content that cut through the noise and left a lasting impression. His breakout session took us behind the scenes of what it was like creating content for Mark McGowan’s social media channels during the pandemic. The biggest take away from his session was that high performing content comes from genuine origins. The now famous ‘eggs-emption’ post where Mark McGowan let all WA children know the Easter Bunny would deliver eggs despite the lockdown came about because a 9-year-old girl emailed the Premier, it wasn’t a communications stroke of genius it was just an honest reply to a concerned child during a period of uncertainty. A reply that’s now been viewed over 73,000 times.

On top of the keynote speakers there were some amazing hands-on workshops that helped attendees learn how to better shape their social media strategy, understand mental health strategies in the workplace, improve their public speaking and create viral TikTok content.

State of Social is sure to return in 2023 and we highly recommend you get along to it.
